Yes, Thorn, an emulator.  I'm looking for a freeware Win95 emulator for WinXP.  I have an old Frogger (the 1997 Hasbro version) that I would like to play again, but it won't work on this machine.  That's all I'm actually planning on using it for.  Does anyone have any ideas?

^Why are you dragging me into this? If this is because I was the one who responded when you commented on ROm usage, this is different. Emulation is pretty much legal, as long as the emulator isn't dependent on copyrighted BIOS.

Also, you could always pick up the PS1 version of Frogger. Only difference is in the time limits for levels (I forget if it's stricter or more lenient on PC).

And, I've heard that the PC is stricter for the time limits, good because that keeps it fun.  Unless you have a PS1 emulator in mind, though, I couldn't do that either - I don't own a PS(anything).

You can right-click .exe files, click properties, go to the compatibility tab, and change it to Windows 95.  It's what I needed to do for some of my older games (and my scanner software).

Didn't work when I first tried it.  The game still has messed-up graphics and zero music (and I love that music).  I THINK it may have something to do with a much older version of DirectX (5 compared to today's 9 or 10), but I can't install one without removing the other.  I was hoping for a software way of doing this, because I wonder how even the compatability settings really work.

im sorry this wont help you.. but.. im in need of a win95 emulator too, like you ive tried to run it in compatibility mode but the game still refuses to load for me.

so yeah, anyone that can provide some help on the scene here would be doing us both a favor =)

Isn't there a way to temporarily use older versions of Direct X or something?
I thought Sonic 3D Blast mentioned that.

Well, it mentions that DX3 might overwrite newer versions, and that the new one can be restored through "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. So you could install DX5 for Frogger.
Sounds like it's kind of a pain, but it should work. If Direct X is the cause of the problem, that is.

Interesting.  Didn't know that multiple versions of DirectX could be installed on the same computer (though it makes sense when you say it).  I will definitely have to try that.

EDIT:  Dunno why, but it now looks perfect when I just left DX9.  The problem now is, there isn't any music.  And I like that music (second only to Sonic).  Any ideas now?
